Conference Awards

If you wish to be considered for an Award, please complete the relevant section of the online abstract submission form. The Award categories are Conference Presentation Awards, Early Career Research Showcase (ERCS) and Poster Awards. We are excited to announce a new a new award called the PEN Evidence-based Practice Conference Prize on affer at DAA 2019.

Details and eligibility criteria are below:

Conference Presentation Awards
  • New Researcher Award 

    Awarded to presenters in the original research category of a high standard. This award is targeted at students (student dietitians and post entry level researchers) completing a degree or those researchers who have completed their study in the last three years. This award can only be received by the same person once.

  • Research in Practice Award 

    Awarded to presenters in the original research category of a high standard in any area of dietetic practice. The researcher does not need to be enrolled in a higher degree and should not be working the majority of their work as an academic. Please note that preference will not be given to paid research papers.

  • New Conference Presenter Award

    Awarded to a presenter who has never presented at a DAA National Conference.


To be eligible you:

  • Must be the presenter and the first author
  • Must be a financial member of DAA after 31 March 20199
  • Must be registered to attend the DAA 2019 National Conference

Please note that you can nominate for both the ECRS session, the PEN conference prize and the Conference Presentation Awards. The quality of the abstract will be used to rank and cull award nominees if necessary to ensure the judging process is manageable.

*NEW* PEN Evidence-based Practice Conference Prize

This prize recognises DAA members who have demonstrated strength and commitment to application of evidence-based practice in any setting of dietetic practice (other than full time research) e.g. implementation of evidence into practice; determining barriers and enablers to evidence-based practice; or leading high-level processes to improve standards.

Applications must address the following points to be considered for the PEN Evidence-Based Practice prize:

  • PEN Prize box ticked on conference application
  • Current APD status for submitting author
  • Application of evidence-based practice in any setting for dietetic practice (other than full time research) e.g. implementation of evidence into practice; determining barriers and enablers to evidence-based practice; or leading high-level processes to improve standards.
  • This prize is only available to oral presentation submissions.

Early Career Research Showcase (ECRS)

The ‘ECRS’ session is a plenary session dedicated to showcasing the work of PhD students who submit outstanding abstracts. To be eligible to present in this session an author must be a current PhD student or have completed a PhD in the previous year. If you are eligible and would like to be considered for this session, please indicate when submitting your abstract.

To be eligible you:

  • Must be the presenter and the first author
  • Must be a financial member of DAA after 31 March 2019
  • Must be registered to attend the DAA 2019 National Conference

Please note that you can nominate for both the ECRS session, the PEN conference prize and the Conference Presentation Awards. The quality of the abstract will be used to rank and cull award nominees if necessary to ensure the judging process is manageable.

Poster Presentation Awards

If you wish to be considered for a poster award, please complete the relevant section of the online abstract submission form. The poster award categories and eligibility criteria are: 

  • Best Poster Category
  • Best Novice Researcher category

 To be eligible you:

  • Must nominate for a POSTER ONLY at the time of submission
  • Must be the first author
  • Must be a financial member of DAA after 31 March 2019
  • Must be registered to attend the DAA 2019 National Conference

Please note that the quality of the abstract will be used to rank and cull award nominees if necessary to ensure the judging process is manageable.

The submitting author will be notified of the results of the review of abstracts by 11 April 2019.
